Reputable Dachshund Breeders

Reputable breeders are always eager to share references with potential puppy parents. If a breeder cannot provide a veterinarian reference for you, that is a huge red flag, and time to find another breeder. Things to look for when selecting a breeder:

1) They have an actual website, not just a social media page.

2) Are willing to facetime, zoom or skype with you so you can see the puppy.

3) Offers lifetime support after purchasing a puppy from them.

4) Quality, well bred dachshunds are not cheap to breed responsibly, if the price seems like a good deal, chances are the breeder did not invest much into the litter to ensure a healthy, structurally sound puppy. Look for health issues down the road.

5) They are eager to answer questions and they love to educate you on proper nutrition, potty training, and vaccination schedules.

6) Their puppies come with a clear health certificate and microchip. This is non-negotiable.

7) Is the breeder friendly and approachable? You will have a lifelong relationship with the breeder, so make sure you are comfortable talking with them. Most reputable breeders love to talk about their dogs and dog people are usually very friendly.

This is by no means a complete list, but it's a good starting point. Lastly, it is better to save up for a quality puppy than to buy impulsively at a lower price. Think of it this way, invest in a healthy pet in the beginning rather than get a bargain and pay ten times as much in healthcare costs long term.
